Donald Miller, a Christian writer whom I will actually take time to read on occasion, posted an article on his blog about a month ago with some sage advice about how groups can move through conflict and difficulty.

"... character is only molded in conflict, and if you want your characters to bond, you have to put them through hell. While it’s nice to go on a vacation to rest with friends, likely the people you will bond with most are the people you’ve experienced mutual hardship."

It's certainly worth a read...
